Who Am I?

P1060974 - Copy (3)

Children’s Author Sandra Bennett First Children’s short chapter book – Gingerbread Aliens, written for ages 5-10yrs, early, reluctant readers and ESL students.

I am a wearer of many hats.

I am a devoted wife of nearly 30 years.

A loving mother of three boys that I have nurtured into independent, strong and confident young adults.

A loyal friend to some very dear people in my life that I treasure like gemstones, precious and rare.

I keep a construction hat in handy reach as I site supervise the construction of our dream home. It’s a bit like “Grand Designs.” The plans went into council six years ago, we finally broke ground two years ago and are only now up to starting the internal fitout. The finish date is forever being put back, perhaps this christmas we’ll move in….fingers crossed!

I’m a nature lover. 🙂 We are lucky enough to live in a little tranquil rural community that allows me the peace and quiet to sit in awre every afternoon and watch the magnificent sunsets across the valley and over the distant mountains. Kangaroos graze in our paddocks every dusk and dawn. When my husband and I bushwalk through our property if we are lucky we may catch a glimpse of an echidna or two and there is usually evidence of a visiting wombat.  We haveBoxing Kangaros an abundance of native birds that I adore waking to each morning. The blue fairy wrens nesting at the bottom of my garden give me great delight in being able to say “there are fairies at the bottom of my garden.” The Eastern Rosellas provide so much brilliant colour  it is like having a rainbow in the garden every day.

Literacy has always been a passion of mine. I became a Primary School teacher in my early twenties and juggled teaching with raising my boys for close on 25 years. I have taught in Sydney, on the Central Coast of NSW, overseas in Thailand and lastly in our nations capital, Canberra. I have had experience from Pre-school through to Year 6 and in the early years even taught in a few high schools.

Reading and writing go together like a glass of good red wine in front of a warm fire on a cold winter night. You can’t have one without the other! I”ve always loved reading and I’ve always loved writing. I started putting words together at an early age and haven’t stopped since. I not only have my teaching degree along with a Graduate Diploma in ESL/Lote, Certificates 1 and 2 in Indonesian, I also have a Diploma in Children’s Writing.

Over the ySunset over the Brindabella Rangesears I have been a reading/writing tutor, a maths tutor, a playgroup activities co-ordinator and treasurer, a boy scout troop leader, a soccer mum, canteeen volunteer and even a children’s knitting club supervisor.

MIRAGE

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a persistent one. So get a few laughs and do the best you can. Don't have an ideal to work for. That's like riding towards the mirage of a lake.
